Leonhard Menges is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Salzburg, where he teaches ethics, social, and political philosophy. His research focuses on moral responsibility, blame, praise, the right to privacy, and climate ethics. He serves and served as Principal Investigator of several Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded research projects on these topics.
He earned his PhD in philosophy from Humboldt University of Berlin, following studies in philosophy, psychology, and German language and literature at the University of Freiburg and the University of Michigan. Before joining the University of Salzburg in 2017, he was a lecturer at the University of Lübeck, where he established a philosophy program for non-philosophy students. At Salzburg, he has been recognized with the Excellence in Teaching Award (2019 and 2024) and the International Main Award for Science & Research (2021).
