My research aims to understand how moral, social, legal and political norms get a grip on us individually and collectively. Specifically, I am interested in explanations of their normativity that do not depend on their being good for us. I am also interested in self-improvement; the roles chance and choice play in shaping our evaluative standpoint; whether it is possible to become someone else; and, if it is, who is responsible for it.
